Getting started

Lunar Papers turns the tax documents a client sends you into a reviewer-ready Excel workpaper workbook, then checks the return you prepare against it.

  1. Set up your firm. In Firm settings, add your firm's name, the preparer who signs, and your tax software. The software matters: every fix in a return comparison is written in that software's own screens and fields.
  2. Add your people. In Firm settings → Users, add everyone who works returns. Admins manage settings, users and billing; members work clients and engagements.
  3. Start an engagement. New engagement → pick the client (or add one), the return (1040, 1120-S, 1065 or 1120) and the year, and drop in everything: the prior-year return and every document the client sent.
  4. Work the results. When the workbook is ready you'll see the summary, the figures, and the Open Items to clear.
  5. Compare the return. Once you've keyed the return in your software, print it to PDF and upload it on the Return comparison tab.

New firms get 1 free Standard workbook when they sign up with the firm's own email domain (none with Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook.com or another free address), and each free workbook includes its first return comparison. The free workbook is shared across every account on the same domain.
