Get clients from the Find a CPA directory
Lunar Papers runs a public directory, Find a CPA (lunarpapers.com/find-a-cpa), where taxpayers look for a CPA, enrolled agent or tax attorney in their state and ask a firm for an introduction. Listing your firm is free with your account: no referral fee, no per-lead charge, and placement can't be bought.
List your firm. A firm admin opens Firm settings → Directory, fills in the listing (name, credential, license state and number, city, state, ZIP code, services, a short description, the email that should receive introductions) and submits it with the confirmation box checked. Lunar Papers checks the license with the state board (or the IRS for enrolled agents) and approves it, usually within one business day; you get an email when it's live. The license number isn't shown publicly; your page says "License checked by Lunar Papers."
How taxpayers find you. They search by state and, optionally, ZIP code and the help they need. Firms in their ZIP code come first, then their ZIP area, then the rest of the state, then firms in other states that work with clients remotely (tick that box if you do). Firms not taking new clients show last. Within each group the order is random each time.
Introductions. When someone asks to be introduced, you get an email with their name, email, phone (if given), ZIP code, what they need and their note. Reply to it to write to them directly. They agreed to share these details with your firm only, and we don't collect tax documents or ID numbers. Every request is also listed under Firm settings → Directory → Introduction requests, where you can mark it Contacted, Became a client or Not a fit. New requests show a badge on the Directory tab.
Pausing or leaving. Use Pause new requests when you're full (you stay listed as not taking new clients), or Take it down to leave the directory. Changing the firm name, credential or license sends the listing back for a quick check, and it's down until then.
The listing terms are in §15 of the Terms of Service.
Taxpayers already waiting. When a taxpayer searches a state with no listed firms, they can ask for one email when a firm there lists. The day your listing is approved, everyone waiting in your state gets that email with a link to your page (then their address is deleted).
